NEW YEAR MESSAGE: LET'S WALK THIS YEAR
Great Voices,
Happy New Year to each and everyone of you and to your individual families. I thank God on behalf of each of you for bringing us through the numerous challenges of 2020 into a brand new year.
Mr. Ide-Owodiong Idemeko, National Coordinator 1001+ Voices |
It is incontrovertible to state that the discovery and devastation wrought by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 was not only the most significant occurrence for that year but has become the most devastating public health crises since the great depression of the 1930's.
It is good for mention that inspite of the challenges posed by the socio-economic devastation of the pandemic, we have lived true to the word and spirit of our strategic action plan and projections for 1001+ Voices Initiative. We envisaged that we would crawl in 2020, then walk in 2021. True to type and owing to the dexterity, commitment, focus and tenacity of our strategic and executive leadership we have grown from a-60-member organisation to a 600+ strong membership with active cells and membership in the 31 LGA's in our focal constituency, Akwa Ibom State as well as Abuja, the South South (excluding Akwa Ibom) and the US.
We have made empirical and judicious contributions to improvement of public accountability and good governance through the policy papers we presented to the Akwa Ibom State Government on education, youth empowerment and economic reconstruction post COVID-19. These papers will remain relevant to the sociocultural and economic development of Akwa Ibom State into the future.
We must remain steadfast in our overarching objective of being the cornerstone for increased involvement of youth in elective politics, development and thought-leaderhip, if we will succeed in galvanising the resources to take advantage of the opportunities which the challenges of 2021 will present.
To this end, the lessons of 2020 must always form the backdrop on which we project and develop our action plan for 2021 and beyond.
I congratulate and thank all of us, both at the executive, committee and operations directorates for our commitment to the vision, mission and purpose of 1001+ Voices Initiative. Given that the reward for hard hard work is usually more work, we should buckle our seat belts for the task ahead.
Thank you for the great strides of 2020, and welcome to the challenges and excitement of 2021. Together let's commence the Walk to progress.
Ide Owodiong-Idemeko
National Coordinator
