EKET CHAPTER OF APGA DEFECTS TO PDP

The Eket Chapter leadership and Ward Chairmen of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) led by the Vice Chairman, Idongesit Ben have defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to show their support and solidarity with Rt. Hon. Akaniyene Tommey led administration in Eket.


APGA leadership took this decision today in Eket during a meeting with the Chapter Chairman of PDP, ObongIwaad Emmanuel Mbong and Chief of Staff to Eket Chairman, Chief Akwaekong Idim.

In his speech, the Director General of APGA Chairmanship Candidate in Eket LGA at the last local government election, Unong Udofia said they decided to join the PDP to lend their support to the PDP led administration and support the party to succeed in 2023.

"We are here to join the PDP and to support our chairman for his victory at the election held on 31st October, 2020 which was successful, free and fair."

He added that they cannot continue to fight because Akaninyene Tommey has already won the election and it is incumbent on them as young people with a promising future to join hands and work with the chairman for him to succeed in office.

In his response, the Eket Chapter Chairman of PDP, ObongIwaad Emmanuel Mbong thanked them for coming out to join PDP, saying the party will continue to reign in the local government, state and national level. He assured them that as PDP members, they are entitled to all the benefits accruing to members of PDP. 

Mbong intimated them the enormous opportunities that abound in Ibom Deep Seaport which is about to take off in earnest, promising to marry all their interest for the growth and development of Eket.

Speaking also, the Chief of Staff to the Chairman, Chief Akwaekong Idim further assured the defected members that there are a lot of opportunities in government be it jobs, contract, etc, saying they can't access those opportunities from outside.

"There are a lot of opportunities in government and you can't stay outside to access it. I want to assure you that Rt. Hon. Akaniyene Tommey is a friendly chairman and you will be properly accommodated."

He promised to facilitate a meeting between them and the chairman so that they can make their demands known to him.

A motion for the defection of Eket Chapter of APGA to join the PDP was moved by Ward 1 Central Chairman, Idongesit Ben and seconded by the Chapter Vice Chairman, Sunday Udo Okon.

The event was witnessed by the Eket Chapter Secretary of PDP, Mr. Gordian Udoh and others.
