IBOM DEEP SEA PORT, ISDP: THE THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW
How much do you know of this humongous project with numerous window of opportunities for the teeming people of Akwa Ibom State and indeed Nigeria as a whole?
✔️ Ibom Deep Seaport, IDSP, is a major component of the Ibom Industrial City.
✔️ The coastal communities of Mbo, Oron, Ibeno and Eket stand to benefit most from the massive transformation coming with the Ibom Deep Seaport project.
✔️ IDSP will provide jobs for no fewer than 10,000 youths in the catchment communities both during the execution of the project and at the commencement of operations.
✔️ The project is jointly owned by the Federal Government through the Nigeria Ports Authority, NPA, Akwa Ibom State government and private investors, through a Public Private Partnership, PPP arrangement.
✔️ Ibom Deep Sea Port was conceived to be an economic empowerment plan, designed to play a catalytic role in economic development of Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria in general.
✔️Although the idea of the Ibom Deep Seaport IDSP project was mooted by the previous administrations, Governor Udom Emmanuel translated the dream into a realistic project when he came on board.
✔️ The setting up of a technical committee on the implementation of the Ibom Deep Seaport project by Governor Udom Emmanuel during his first 100days in office gave the IDSP strong backing.
✔️ Governor Udom Emmanuel further demonstrated his commitment towards the actualization of Ibom Deep Sea Port, when the state government contracted the Global Maritime and Ports Services, GMAPS, to provide transaction advising services in December 2015.
✔️ GMAPS also had the responsibility of completing the master-plan to produce a full business case for the IDSP project.
✔️ IDSP received the Federal Government's approval under the Public-Private Partnership, PPP, model in May 2015.
✔️ Ibom Deep Sea Port will be constructed in phases. The first phase will witness the construction of two breakwaters 1,350m-long and 600m-long respectively.
✔️ The second phase will witness the extension of IDSP with an additional 495ha of land to accommodate a channel of 18.24m, turning basin berth depth of 16.72m, and a quay length of 7.5km, to enable it harbour new Panamax-class vessels.
✔️ Ibom Deep Sea Port on completion will significantly raise the business and revenue profile of Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria at large.
✔️ The Deep Seaport occupies 2,565 hectares of land with additional 1.565 hectares for future expansion.
✔️ IDSP has the investment capacity of $4.2 billion and will on completion serve the Joint Development of Sao Tome, Equatorial Guinea, Cameroon, Angola, Gabon, Democratic Republic of Congo, Niger and Chad.
✔️ The Deep Sea Port project offers a multiple model connectivity with unparalleled access to coastal railway lines, the Victor Attah International Airport and extensive national road network.
✔️ It is a trans-shipment port for the West and Central African region, expected to handle such business activities as:

☑️dry-bulk
☑️ liquid cargo
✔️ IDSP is a gargantuan leap in trans-national trade activities that would handle large vessels capable of loading over 13,000 containers in one voyage.
✔️ Ibom Deep Sea Port aligns with local content and all interested Nigerians are given the opportunity to contribute during the construction.
✔️ Already a 12-lane 30km-long road connecting IDSP to the federal highway is receiving government attention while a new 20km-long and 450m-wide channel approach will be built to allow a two-way traffic for vessels.

✔️ Bolloré Ports will be responsible for operating all container activities of the port, while PowerChina will carry out the necessary works for developing the port infrastructure.
