The youth of Odio
community under the aegis of Odio Youth Forum (OYF) in Eket local government
have resolved to embrace peace and unity among themselves for the interest of
the community and for development to thrive as witnessed in other communities. They
took this unanimous decision during their monthly meeting held yesterday at
Iwuokpom in Ibeno local government area.

Speaking through the
President of the organization, Comrade Samuel Asuquo said it is pertinent for
all Odio youth resident wherever they are to come together under one umbrella
to fashion the way forward for the growth and progress of Odio and the overall
interest of the community as no one loves your community more than yourself.
“We must come together
from different fronts as youth with the strength and capacity to build a
community that our children will be proud to inherit because when we fail to
lay a solid foundation for our children and the incoming generation, posterity
will not forgive our misdeeds.”
Comrade Asuquo
expressed displeasure why some people in the community hate to see those that
resident in the coastal area as not having any right to be partaker of anything
good that comes from Odio, saying such behaviour is alien to the community and
antithetical to development and should be jettisoned. He was worried on the
mudslinging and campaign of calumny launched against one of the sons who
ensured that the palliatives given by Eket Covid-19 Action Committee was evenly
shared among the different units as was directed with few names from the
coastal area inclusive, wondering why those with community interest should
launched hate campaign against such a fellow.
He assured that Odio
youth have come of age to break away from the shackles of slavery and will no
longer fold their hands and watch few persons hold the entire community to
ransom, urging all concerned citizens to arise and fight the enemy within. He specifically
thanked the Chairman of Eket local government area, Hon. Frank Archibong, Eket
Stakeholders and Eket Covid-19 Action Committee for their goodwill and support
during the Covid-19 pandemic which few of their members were beneficiaries for
the first time, promising to work with all relevant authorities to ensure that
the dreams and aspirations of Odio youth is achieved.

The President of Odio
Youth Forum, Coastal Area (Nta Ikang) Chapter, Raphael Nnah Sunday thanked the
youth of Odio for coming together to chart a common cause for their overall
interest saying it is long overdue as the community cannot grow in an
atmosphere of rancour, sueing for unity of purpose to achieve positive results.
He warned those who take delight in commandeering everything that belong to the
entire community for their own personal use to desist from it or will face the
dire consequence.
Other speakers
advocated for unity of purpose and cooperation among members of the group, urging
them to resist any distraction and propaganda propagated by enemies of progress
to cause disunity in the group as they take delight seeing their own people
suffering. They prayed that with God on their side, there will be light at the
end of the tunnel.
One of the advisers of
the group, Ubong David thanked the leadership and members for their forthrightness
and firm disposition to bring the entire youth of Odio resident in the coastal
area together to chart a new direction for their overall interest. He refuted
insinuation in some quarters that he formed the group for political interest
which is far from the truth. He disclosed that it was on the basis of series of
complains by those resident in the coastal area that they have stay for years
without anything to show that I asked them to gather themselves together under
a platform as government do not quickly recognize individuals but give quick
attention to a group.
He disclosed that his
intention was sincere which have culminated to the visit of few prominent
personalities in their area of operation, warning them not to be distracted by
propaganda which is aim to cause disunity among members. He intimated them that
no matter the hate messages and propaganda to cause resentment in the community,
he will stand firm with the group and ensure that their effort yield positive
results. He also advised them to be focus on their targeted goals, not allowing
their attention to be divided by inconsequential issues.
On the deplorable road situation which Akwa Ibom State Government to VKS Construction, Ubong intimated them that he had chatted the Commissioner of Works, Mr. Ephraim Inyang after he had meeting with youth leaders of the affecting communities that the Commissioner had assured that immediately there is improvement in the economy the contractor will be remobilize to site
